The organisation of the Pan-European Breakfast follows concepts of earlier works to reach people in their experience of tolerance and democracy.
The Pan-European Picnic led to the fall of the Iron Curtain, whereas the intention of the Pan-European Breakfast is to prevent walls being erected, out of prejudice, fear and hate. The Picnic started off as a peace demonstration and the Breakfast has similar intentions.
Although living in an era where demonstration hardly has effect, communities are created more than ever before. A contemporary peace demonstration could be practiced alone at home and still be effective via social media.
Additionally a Skype Breakfast will take place during an exhibition, which is intended to be simultaneously joined by participants from the 27 countries within the EU.
The UK ceding from the EU would have been experienced differently, if the referendum would have had no effect on immigrants. This now being a fact, more needs to be done to confirm the tolerance for internationality.
This project is accessible for everyone as a peace demonstration should be. People will be asked to participate via social media and to join an international breakfast. This might not differ from the reality of everyday life. The international reach of this project brings awareness of the simple diversity of what people eat for breakfast. Simultaneously, in many countries having breakfast together is a social ritual and start of the day.
Performance in which margarine is thrown at a blue fabric substituting for the European flag and the symbols of the stars.
This is an attempt to reunite the stars by trying to get them as close as possible back into their original place on the fabric.
The deconstruction of the stars, is the process in which the margarine is taken from the blue fabric, and stored cold. Thereafter the portions of margarine are made into prints on paper.
This process was repaeted until the remains were greasy spots on paper.
